The Base Support Services Inc. is honoured to be one of the lucky recipients of the Brother’s Leagues Club Brother’s Helping Others Community Grant 2023.

The Brothers Leagues Club Ipswich acknowledges the significant contribution community-focused organisations, schools and sporting groups provide to the Ipswich Community. The Brothers Helping Others $100,000 Community Grant provides direct funding to support not-for-profit and charitable organisations in delivering valuable services to our community. The Base Support Services Inc. has been fortunate to be provided with a donation of $2495 to purchase a Lifepak Essential CR2 Defibrillator for our planned Youth and Family Hub Space in Goodna with the focus of supporting our community in times of critical need.

Each year, more than 30,000 Australians have a cardiac arrest. If it happens outside a hospital, the chances of surviving are less than 1 in 10. A cardiac arrest is not the same as a heart attack, but both are emergencies.

Signs that someone is having a cardiac arrest include:

  • Collapse
  • loss of consciousness
  • abnormal breathing or not breathing at all
  • no pulse

Giving the person CPR and using an AED as soon as possible can greatly increase the chances of survival. The most important thing is to use the AED quickly. Time is crucial.  Having this essential device, along with our trained First Aid/CPR staff, we have a tool that will support a critical response time for any community members accessing our service who need assistance. The Lifepak Essential Defibrillator CR2 is ideal for our service as it is suitable for both people who are experts and those who are minimally trained. It uses simplified graphics and a metronome to walk users through the process, making it an essential tool for health hazards and accidents. With audible instructions, anyone can be in life-saving care accessing our Hub space thanks to the generosity and support of the Brothers Helping Others Community Grant 2023.
